Trying Out Last.fm Software

I’ve just installed the Last.fm software on my computer, as I found myself playing my music between both iTunes and Winamp and as such now my tracks that I play in both players will be scrobbled to my Last.fm profile.

So far so good, but Im always dubious about installing some web services own software to “get the most” out of it. There’s too many services out there to count that force bloatware on to you, and I would really hate for Last.fm to start becoming one of them. Time will tell.

Usher - Love In This Club (Mstrkrft Remix)

I’m not an Usher fan. I can honestly say I’m probably not going to get his latest album. Not because I don’t like him or his music in any particular way, just that he’s not on my radar if you know what I mean. If there’s a song of his that will get constantly played on the radio or something, and the tune gets stuck in my head, then I guess I might download it - though that’s a long shot.

Speaking of one of his songs getting stuck in my head. Give it up for those crazy Canadian bastards Mstrkrft who have remixed Love In This Club into something I can’t get out my noggin, despite how many blows to the head I give myself!

LastGraph - Visualizing Your Last.fm Info

Quick mention about LastGraph, a site which processes your Last.fm information into a funky looking graphical representation of the various music that you listen to, as “scrobbled” by the Last.fm service. Something which I’ve been meaning to try for myself.

The site’s been out for a while now, but each time I try to use there’s alway a massive queue to get your last.fm information processed into a graph for you, and in the end I always give up. Plus recently, if I have the LastGraph site open in a tab in Firefox, none of the flash stuff on other sites tend to work (like Hype Machines music player) and I have to restart my browser, which is not good.

So now I have it opened up in a tab in Safari, and I’m currently 980 in the queue. I’ll post my graph, if and when it gets processed. If you’ve got a LastGraph already, post a link in the comments, I’d be interested to see other peoples.

The Republic Tigers - Buildings & Mountains

Been listening to The Republic Tigers - Buildings & Mountains alot recently. Fantastic track. Just downloaded the album. Will give my own unique critique when I’ve given it a good listen through a couple of times. Nothing to stop you getting a taste though…

Fuckingrad Muxtape

Just came across this “fucking rad” (because it is) muxtape. Awesome stuff - ROCK ON!!

Muxtape is Awesome

Been meaning to make a post about this for a while now. I’m a big fan of sites that let you interact with music, and help you discover bands and songs that you wouldn’t normally listen to, or wouldn’t have even heard of (such as last.fm and Hype Machine). So thats why when I found out about Muxtape, I really fell in love with the premise.

If you love making mix tapes, this is the on-line equivalent to share your creations. Its really simple. Create a free account, upload up to 12 songs - you’ve then got your on-line mix tape! Or muxtape as the case would be. You can even browse other peoples muxe’s. It doesn’t really get more complicated then that. Its just something fun to mess around with and explore, and there in lies the appeal.

On a side note; check out Internet Joggings’ post on how to combine’s Muxtape and Fluid into an iTunes-esque jukebox with Coverflow that’s really cool for browsing other people muxes!

EDIT: There’s also a windows version that uses the new Adobe Air runtime software, called Muxmaster!

Alphabeat - Digital Love (Daft Punk Cover)

Daft Punks Discovery album is one of my favourite albums, where-by I can consistently listen to the whole thing all the way through without skipping tracks or turning it off (my measure of how good an album truly is). Digital Love is one of the standout tracks for me, and Alphabeats cover is a nice mellowed out Indie version, that cuts out a lot of the electronic vibe of the original version. In a good way.
